Michael Omonua is a British-Nigerian film director and screenwriter based in Lagos and London. A graduate of the University College of the Creative Arts, Farnham, his work has screened at the world's most prestigious film festivals, including Berlinale, Locarno, TIFF, IFFR, BFI London, and Fespaco. He is also a recipient of two Vimeo Staff Picks.

His latest short film, ‘Rehearsal’ (2021), had its world premiere in competition at the 71st Berlinale. Having screened at over 50 festivals, the film won the Grand Prize for Best International Short Film at the Oscar-qualifying Kurzfilmtage Winterthur and the Luna de Valencia award at Cinema Jove.

His segment in the supernatural anthology feature ‘Juju Stories’ (2021) premiered in competition at the 74th Locarno Film Festival, where it won the independent critics prize: The Boccalino d’Oro award for Best Film.

He is currently developing a feature film, ‘Galatians’. The project has development support from La Fabrique Cinema, Realness Institute, MIPCOM Africa, and Fame Week, and was a recipient of the Atlas Workshop Award at the Marrakesh Film Festival.

Omonua is a co-founding member of the Surreal16 Collective and the S16 Film Festival held annually in Lagos.
